The potential range is incredible dependent on quality of diamond and the setting.

Bare minimum would be ~£2k and can increase substantially.

if you are bidding at auction - think around £1000 / carat

buying in a shop the mark up is around 3 (triple that is not 3% )

Have just been looking at a 1.2 carat diamond unset for $1600.00 us$. To have it set will push the price up. You can check the Rap report for diamond prices.
