Trip costs in Egypt

My wife and I are going on a trip to Luxor with a normal high street travel company. We know that the Pyramids are a fair distance from Luxor but would like to take a trip to see them.

Has anybody any experience of such trips? how long do they last? what sort of transport they use? are there any problems I should look out for? What sort of cost can I expect to pay per person with Luxor as a base?

the pyramids are in Cairo (or just on the edge) - could you do a two-centre holiday? I think some brochures pair Luxor and Cairo.

I have already booked a two centre trip, however could only get Hurgarda and Luxor, While in Luxor we would like to go to visit the Pyramids, its that trip detail and costs we need

Well I'm bored at work so have spent an hour searching the net.  I haven't managed to find one single company that does Cairo as an excursion from Luxor.

All I did find was the distance (420 miles) and the fact that it would take 10 hours by train.  The cheapest flight I could find from Luxor to Cairo was �146 return per person so that may give you a very rough idea of the likely cost.

Hope that did not get you in trouble, I expect there will be trips when we get there but I wanted an idea for budget purposes

W took the train from Cairo to Luxor as part of our trip, it was an 8 or 9 hour journey and cost about �6 to travel first class. If you wanted to go by train, you could probably travel overnight to keep the costs down, but you would need to take a taxi or find out about a bus from Cairo station to Giza.
