Thanks everyone for your answers. I guess it may be unrealistic to expect to be able to get inside one. I just wanted to get some impression of what life was like for those guys. Maybe I should confine myself to reading about it (thanks Stewey).

Here's an excellent book: "Run Silent, Run Deep is a novel published first in 1955 by then-Commander Edward L. Beach, Jr.. The name refers to "silent running", a submarine stealth tactic. Run Silent, Run Deep is also the name of a 1958 film starring Clark Gable and Burt Lancaster and based on the same novel. The story describes World War II submarine warfare in the Pacific Ocean, and deals with themes of vengeance, endurance, courage, loyalty and honor, and how these can be tested during time of war." Although it's American, I imagine the contents apply to all submariners. Read it twice.
