Carnivale Ideas For Venice
Hello all. Lucky us...we are going to Venice from Sunday 2 March to Wednesday 5 March to take part in Carnevale. Has anyone been before? I hope to find out if there are any goings on which are not part of the general public scene. Thank you everyone.
Also, anyone know where I can buy one of those all over long clear plastic waterproof things (similar to what you get at theme parks)?

Although it can be very, very crowded especially along the route of the parade and at St Mark's Square.
That said it is really easy to wander off into side streets and find little cafes and restaurants with some real local colour.
Lots of the action happens in St Marks Square have a look here for some details:

I was lucky enough to be there for the end of the carnival about 4 years ago. On the last day St Marks Square is full of people dressed up, just waiting to have their pictures taken. We also saw people all dressed up and obviously going off to masked balls, but who organises them I don't know. There are sometimes fireworks on the last night, but unfortunately not the year we were there. There is a tourist information centre near St Marks Square, you could ask in there.
