As longs as it's in date for your return journey you'll be fine. That's for an EU passport, not sure about other countries.
Can't be sure about the rules within Europe, but it's certainly true if you're travelling further afield.

Try asking your Travel Agent, they should know.

As long as it is 'in Date' it is valid, why would it not be?
"As long as sit`s in date, it is valid. Why would it not be" Because some countries require you to have at least 6 months` validity on your passport so it`s worth checking that Spain isn`t one of those countries.
From the Foreign Office link above re: Spain;

"Passport validity

Your passport should be valid for the proposed duration of your stay. No additional period of validity beyond this is required."

Standard case for an EU issued passport visiting an EU member state.
EU law requires all member states to recognise all EU passports and national identity cards throughout the FULL period of validity stated on them.

Some countries OUTSIDE of the EU have restrictions upon the validity of passports because they recognise that you could stay longer than planned in their country (e.g. because you're taken into hospital) and they require you to have a valid passport throughout all of your extended stay. However EU citizens have the right to travel to AND REMAIN IN any EU country, so having a minimum passport validity would make no sense. (i.e.you could arrive in Spain, to live there permanently, with just a few hours left on your passport. If you never intended to leave Spain it wouldn't matter at all).

It needs to be remembered that (with the exception of Ireland, which is legally 'trapped' by its open-border agreement with the UK) ALL other EU countries are full signatories to the Schengen agreement, which means that you don't need ANY form of documentation to travel between them at all. (It's only our stupid government which refuses to sign up).

@237, the OPer did specify Spain, an EU Country, so I repeat, why would it not be?
If you have time before you travel why don't you renew your passport? You can renew it an any time, but it you do so with 9 months or less remaining on your passport they will add the remaining time to your new passport, so your new one could be valid for 10 years and 9 months.
