Do wait for any possible cheap tickets to appear before booking - in both directions. I think they should be there for the Friday but not yet for the Sunday
Ahh...I go from St. Pancras....but I will try to find out for you from the daughter if I can.....she seems to know how to get about London pretty well.....and someone on here may know too....x
Question Author
Unfortunately no,it was one of my to-do things before the "Umpire" gave me out for good.!!
Question Author
Thanks, dzug, gness that would be very helpful, will look for your reply.
//which is the easiest way to Lords from Kings Cross?//

get a cab.

:-)
Then you will have a wonderful time....I just love it there.....☺

Are you signed up for the East Coast cheap tickets alerts? They will let you know of the early release dates.
Don't know if Mushroom is joking....but I mostly use cabs in London....not as expensive as you expect and so much more relaxing as part of a treat.

You can find fares on line...x
My experiences of first class are mainly confined to the East Coast main line. Lots of complementary tea. There was at least one journey I took recently where the first-class tickets were cheaper than Standard class. No prizes for guessing which ticket I bought...
Question Author
Yes,checked the prices, not a great deal of difference between the two(around £100),would get a Cab but I don't want to go on a Tour of London before we get to Lords,if you know what I mean!!
£10. 80 for a cab I think....and the drivers I have are great.....don't think they'd fleece you but just look like you do the trip regularly.....x
Question Author
I must go now, have to pick Daughter up from work but will look in tomorrow, glad I posted this, had so many good replies.

£10.80 sounds good, gness,I will remember that.
Thanks for your reply.

Standard Class Off-Peak Return tickets would cost you £126.00 on some services or £199.50 on others. Standard Class Anytime Return tickets cost a whopping £301.00.

East Coast Trains unusually offer a First Class Off-Peak ticket at £328.00. A First Class Anytime ticket costs £415.00 (which is somewhat less than the 50% premium normally added on for First Class travel).

However if you book now (before all the bargains have gone) you can buy a Standard Class Advance ticket for your outbound journey for £38.00 (or even less on some journeys) with the return journey typically costing £28.50 (or even less on the last two trains back). So a typical total cost for Standard Class return travel might be £66.50.

First Class Advance tickets for your outbound travel are available for £70.50, with First Class Advance tickets for the return journey priced at £50.00, making a total of £120.50 for the round trip.

So if you've made your mind to travel First Class, BOOK NOW and pay £120.50 per person, rather than paying at least £328.00 (and possibly £415.00) by leaving it until later. A SAVING OF OVER £200 PER PERSON IS DEFINITELY WORTH HAVING!!!

Check times and fares here:

(You can also book via that site. The link will take you to East Coast Train's booking system).
re cab, not joking gness - when there's a group of you, it's a no-brainer.
Just remembered last year,EH.....if you go by tube you will be with hundreds of others....I remember now that people were herded into the tube station in small groups....quite long waits.
Then you will be in a long queue at the gates and searches at Lords. Getting there by cab will give you a nicer journey and you perhaps won't be arriving with a train load of others......just a thought.
Mrs Z and myself went first class to London on Saturday on Hull trains. There were only about 12 passengers and they were nice refined people. Much better than the coughing, chattering, earpiece wearing plebs in standard. Well worth it.
Makes the journey part of the treat, Zacs.....x
To return to your original question:

First Class travel gets you a free meal on the Friday
http://www.eastcoast.co.uk/on-board-our-trains/food1/complimentary-food-and-drink1/
and sandwiches on the Sunday
http://www.eastcoast.co.uk/on-board-our-trains/food1/weekend-service/
with comfy seats and free wi-fi in both directions
http://www.eastcoast.co.uk/on-board-our-trains/food1/onboard-facilities/
plebs in standard...............oh !!!!!!
On Great Western, you'd be more likely to get a landslip and a bus.
