No problem using walkie talkies on cruise ships according to the chat here http://www.cruisemates.com/forum/family-cruising/276900-can-you-rent-walkie-talkies-aboard-ship.html Looks like some ships rent them out. One poster makes an interesting point about the channels from other users being crowded. You can get wrist walkie talkies but you need to check the wrist size (they are for kids) and the range.

Your other half will probably feel the need to get lost from time to time.
1 cabin 2 keys, simple really.
The fact that it is possible to lose your partner makes me want to go on one
While onboard-rented walkie-talkies would obviously be fine (if your ship offers them) that doesn't necessarily mean that you can take your own. The ones provided onboard are probably lower power (and on different frequencies) to those you can buy in UK shops.
Just make arrangements like you would in town, meet you in the cafe in a couple of hours or such like. I can't see it being a particularly relaxing cruise if you are contemplating taking walkie talkies. Try not to.
You will soon find out where Mr Smurf's favourite hang outs are. Relax, you'll be fine. Constantly checking up on each other will be very wearing.
Don't use walkie-talkies, give him some space.

If for some reason either of you can't be where you said you would be just leave a note in the cabin explaining.

"met some lively young un's and am re-living my youth in the Galaxy disco bar, will be back ....no I promise, I will be back at...eventually"
Once you've spotted the rather dishy purser, Smurfchops, you might be happy to lose your OH anyway!
;-)
Who's looking after your kitties while you are away Chris?

Why unbelievable Jordy? At least it was a proper question to which I wanted replies ...
You could have a post it /notice board on your cabin door and always write where you are.....but having been on 30+ cruises I have never lost my husband! I also just agree with the bar idea.....
I've been on 3 grass and have never managed to lose mine :o(
Time to give up then auntiebertie?!
Depending on the cruise itinerary, you'll find that many of today's ships skirt the coastal areas. You 'could' simply use your mobile, hoping you have a signal for sending a text...which still could cost you circa 30 pence each time you send one...(and often they can take many hours to reach due to exchanges inward/outward internationally. However, in my own experience, I've always established a rendezvous point...usually the library on the ship (due to the fewest number of people being there) and agreed to meet up. Again, it depends on the ship and itinerary. However, generally, you won't find it too awkward once you've both familiarised yourselves with the ship's deckplan. Bon Voyage!
