charts are a better guide than personal experience, because the climate is so changeable. Early or late October makes a difference; but it can be warm one day cool the next, sunny one day wet the next, any time of the month. Winter is also more likely to see flooding, though it's still fairly rare.

October is cooler than the summer months in Venice and it is less busy as the tourist season comes to an end.

I've been then. light jumper weather and maybe a jacket during the evening. take a lightweight raincoat. sensible shoes. lots of walking. have a good time.
