Replacement Knee

My husband has recently had a new knee, what happens at the airport when he goes through the body scanner - does he need a note from his doctor, can anyone help?

Just tell them what it is if it is detected, they come across them everyday, they are very common.

So far we both have been OK, I've got a replacement hip and Mrask has had a knee replacement. The friend we travelled with has a knee and hip replacement and it didn't set off for him, his wife was wearing two gold chains and she set the alarm off.

My hip replacement didn't set the alarm off when I went through, I thought it would. I expect security are well aware of things like this. OH could always show them his scar I suppose! Don't know if you'd need a doctor's note, I never even thought about taking one. Am going from a different airport this year so hope it doesn't go off! Lol. Ring the airport just in case.

If the scanner bleeps the security staff will will just use a hand held scanner around him (without making contact) and they may do a pat down. It won't be a problem.

Sometimes my replacement hip beeps, sometimes it doesn't. I recently had the 2nd one replaced, so expect more of the same next time I travel by air. I usually say to the operator that I expect that I will set off the alarm and why. If it does go off then I point out the site of the prosthetic, they swish a hand-held monitor over it to verify and that's it. So, don't worry.
