If travelling back to the Midlands from York .... where might I be after 60 to 90 minutes and we're would you suggest for a new Sunday lunch? Travelling by car. TIA

Sheffield is about 60 miles from York and according to Google Maps it would take you about 1 hour 15 minutes.

'The Midlands' is a rather large area. Where you'll get to after 60 to 90 minutes will depend upon where you start from! (Worcester, Stoke-on-Trent, Leicester and Nottingham could all be classed as within the Midlands but they're not that close together. Further, you could get to York via the A38 and M1, A42 and M1 or via the M6 and M62, among other routes).

However Nuthall is possibility. It's about 70 minutes from Birmingham, with a pub that's got great reviews on TripAdvisor (especially for the quality of it Sunday lunches) that's easily accessible from the M1:

(Set your satnav to find NG8 6AX or leave the M1 at Jn 26. Follow the A610 towards Nottingham. You need to be on the other side of the dual carriageway, so exit at the sign for the Phoenix centre and then turn right to double-back on your journey. Turn left at the lights (signed 'Nuthall') and then left onto Nottingham Road).

Alternatively Teversal is about 90 minutes from Birmingham. That's where you'll The Carnavon, which has very good reviews on TripAdvisor:

Think March-Hare is coming from York and going south, Buenchico. I don't know anywhere around s. Sheffield/Rotherham/Bawtry area.

I've just re-read your question. I thought that you were going the other way (although I still don't know which route you'll be taking, so a bit of guesswork is still needed!).

As has been said, Sheffield is about the right distance from York but there aren't many good pubs or restaurants close to the M1. (Well there certainly weren't when I lived there and Google suggests that things haven't changed that much since then!). My own instinct would be to leave the M1 at Jn 36 and follow the A61 towards Sheffield. Then follow the signs into Grenoside village, which has several decent pubs offering Sunday lunch.

Alternatively the Meadowhall Cente, which is easily accessed from the M1, has a Harvester, Carluccio's, etc:

It's at the upper end of your time scale from York but it looks worth it for something a bit special. Sunday lunch is served from 1200 to 1900. The menu changes weekly but this will give you an idea of prices:
