Hi can anyone give advice on this please. My son booked a flight with Monarch and noticed right away he had miss spelt his surname so phoned them but they want 160 pounds to change his name. It should have been Roberts but he put Roberta clearly a genuine mistake the a is next to the s. Is there anyone he can take this too he does not have an extra 160 His flight did not cost this much
Any advice is appreciated

I think ummmm had a similar problem cris. She may be on later or tomorrow
How much did the flight cost?
I doubt they will even notice when he boards. I would just act normal .
Tell him to ring and hope and pray he gets someone nice at their end who'll do it and waiver the costs.

With respect, it's soooo not worth following Samuraisam's advise!
I agree with Samuraisan. Forget about it and check in as normal. It will not be noticed. Absolutely disgraceful that the airline are demanding that sort of money. Disgusting. Good to know though and I will certainly avoid Monarch in the future.
The cost varies from airline to airline and depends how soon after booking you make the change. I have a vague memory that ummmm did it with Ryanair for nothing. I've looked at Monarch and the maximum they charge is 160 euros and that's if you do it at the airport - however that's for a name change not quite the same as a spelling mistake. I'd ring again and ask for a manager.

Thanks is for the replys. I did the same a few years ago with Ryanair I was dreading phoning them but they were fantastic I just find it so hard to believe Monarch would charge When you can clearly see the genuine error
I did the same but with Ryanair. They just emailed me a new one. When I printed the new one I spilt a drink on it and it wouldn't scan so they wrote me out a new one. Didn't charge anything.

I'd be surprised if Monach kick up a fuss about it. Last time I flew with them I had too much hand luggage (I could have fitted it in my suitcase) but they said I could put it in the hold FOC.
Ryanair also changed my name for free, very helpful and friendly
I think Mr O'Leary has started listening to his customers...
try contacting Gill Charlton of the Telegraph Travel, she has helped me thrice on different travel problems and is in contact with all the airlines

explain the exact problem to her I will be surprised if she cant help.
Dee Sa - what a very useful piece of information. I shall put it in my ref. book in case I ever need it. My OH put Mike instead of his full name when he booked a flight with Wizz Air. They let him board but said that he could have been charged £50.
