Not been on here for a while so lots of won't know how 'blonde' I can be, but here goes... We're off to Greece in 2 weeks but I'm a bit concerned re all this yip yap about Greece 'dropping out of the Euro zone'... does that mean that potentially my Euro currency will be useless if it all goes ti*s up, if so how do I pay for my Pina Coladas? (This is actually a serious question!!)

The foreign office are advising people to take cash and not rely on banks or cash machines which may not be open or have no money.
Take cash in Euro notes but be sure to be on guard against pickpockets and thieves.
The Euro will be fine but the Greek banks will probably not have any to give you. So that is why the advice is to take cash.

Thanks for your answers... I have the Euros in cash, but was worried that they might 'no thanks love, it back to the drachma'.. lol... Hurrah.. holiday countdown is on!!!! :-)
We were in Crete last month and although some cashpoints were shut, we had no trouble paying with cards - but things move on! It's recommended to check your travel insurance again cash loss if you are taking enough cash to cover you for the whole time you are away.

The Greeks will welcome Euros all the more if they face having to introduce a new currency in an emergency situation.
A ( more or less) stable currency will be very acceptable.
travel agent said take more Euros
as cash machines may run out of cash ...

if Greece does go off the Euro when you are there you may expect prices to jump.

agree atalanta - with a strong currency - Eurp and a basket case ( drachma) I imagine they will take Euros

The latest news is that Greece MAY have staved off the inevitable.

Although this may mean that they are just rearranging the deck chairs of the Titanic ! Take cash and don't rely on any of the Cash Points to work.

I am not sure if your Credit Card or Debit Card will still work if the sticky stuff does hit the fan while you are there. Not the best time to be going to Greece me thinks !

We came back from Corfu a few days ago and all is fine. I know everyone is concerned but it is doing no good at all to the main industry on Corfu - tourism. Travel agents and the press are scaremongering, and I for one am sick of it. If - and it's a big if - Greece does revert back to the drachma, it will not happen overnight it will take months to implement. Yes, the Greeks prefer cash to card payments, but who doesn't? Take euros with you and enjoy your jolly.
We came back from Sidari in Corfu a week ago. We only took euros but after speaking to the family that own the hotel where we stayed they said they would prefer to leave the EU and revert to the drachma. Apparently as with virtually all countries that joined the Euro all the prices jumped up. Please enjoy your holiday as much as we enjoyed ours. We shall definitely go back!
