Taking Pounds To Greece

Maxine is going to Greece in a few weeks I told her she would be better taking her spends in sterling rather than Euros. Was I correct?

Whether Greece remains in the Euro or not, traders will still be accepting Euros for quite some time. That's simply because that's what Greeks will have in their wallets and be offering in shops. So having plenty of Euros makes perfect sense.

Any other currency is unlikely to be accepted by many businesses.

An articleI read yesterday suggested Euros cash but make sure it is safe.

The Grreks can't get cash out so will be looking for as much payment in cash as possible.

I would have thought It is a good bargaining tool at the moment.

Take Euros not £. The banks and businesses will not have any Euros to exchange. Prices will still be in Euros for months so you will be able to get a bargain.

Take euros. All banks closed at the moment. No business will accept sterling and few accept cards outside of the major cities. I live in Greece for 6 months of the year. Also make sure that she has somewhere secure to keep her cash, preferably a hotel safe.

Well, they don't use Pounds Sterling in Greece, so I am not sure why anybody would take cash in that denomination there !

Why doesn't Maxine wait until the last minute and then decide !
