There are a number of us going away to a UK hotel (part of a well known chain) in just over a months time.  The person organising has given credit card details.  One of our party has had to drop out, if we cancel the place might we still be charged for the this person's place?

Unles it was part of a special deal where you had to pay in advance then I would say you would NOT have to pay.

Hotels are used to people cancelling all the time, and usually as long as you give 24 or 48 hours notice they do not charge.
