Ok so I've managed to get a week free from Saturday 26th March and want to go abroad. Where will be warm enough that isn't too far? And any suggestions of places that you've been??

What's your definition of 'warm enough'? Barcelona should be very pleasant (with maximum daytime temperatures likely to be around 17C and probably a good deal of sunshine). It's easy to get to, with flights to Barcelona, Girona and Reus from nearly all main UK airports. It's got fantastic shopping activities, great bars and restaurants, tons of history and culture and a wonderful, cheap, fully-integrated transport system. It's also got some lovely beaches but it simply won't be sunbathing weather.

If 'warm enough' actually means 'sunbathing weather' then, to have any chance of that you'll need to go further south, with the obvious choice being the Canaries, where you're likely to encounter maximum daytime temperatures of around 21 or 22C.

To help us make further suggestions, please tell us just how warm you'd like it to be. It might also help if you can indicate which airports are convenient for you to fly from, as there's little point in us suggesting places that you can't easily get to!
26th March is Easter weekend (25th March is Good Friday).

So anywhere you go is going to be expensive as it is Easter wek and the kids will be off school.

What type of Holiday?

Port Aventura in Southern Spain (near Barcelona) is a "Disney" type resort with hotels, theme park, water park etc.

Ideally warm enough to sunbathe really and yes I know it's going to be pricey but that's the only week we can both get off. Son doesn't like going abroad so he's spending a week with his father.
alicante looks a good bet 25C on sat 26th. This Spanish weather forecast site may be of help.

For sunbathing you really need to be looking towards north Africa. (Malta's lovely but it's only likely to have temperatures around 19C, as will Crete. Cyprus might be around 20C).

As indicated above, the Canaries might suit your needs (depending upon how warm you need it to be before you you reach for your bikini!) and, while they might be culturally and politically 'European', they're definitely 'African' when it comes to geography.

Egypt would certainly be warm enough (with Sharm El Sheikh likely to see temperatures of around 27C) but you'd need to weigh up the risks of travelling there at the moment. Morocco should see temperatures of around 26C. Further south, the Gambia will be around 32C.

Yes definitely wouldn't go near Egypt etc
At the moment

. . . and, according to the link, only around 19C for the rest of the week, with some rain!
Malta is stunning. I went in May last year and plan to go back this year. It was much hotter than all the websites said. It's full of sun traps.

You can get a bus ticket for 6 Euro for a week and that's using any bus to any part of the island.

Never thought of Malta
While it's many years since I've been, I can also thoroughly recommend Malta as a destination. The weather should definitely be very pleasant and it might be warm enough for some sunbathing:

Which airports are convenient for you to fly from?
i went to malta - many years ago but it was over new year and i was sailing and swimming, out on pedalos etc, so if it was warm enough in jan it probably will be end march
Tavira in the Algarve - great place - nice town, huge beaches - will be plenty warm enough (I was there for that week last year & it was lovely).
I like Morocco, but it isn't always warm in North Africa at the end of March. Last Easter I was in Algeria and I was Absolutely Frozen. Have you thought of Madeira ? beaches are negligible, but the flowers - all over the island at this time of the year - will be glorious.
The weather forecast for Almeria and Alicante is looking good now.
Algarve...lucky you..can I come?
i go gran canaria every march im off monday 21st never had a bad week yet been going since 2009
The Eastern Algarve 2 1/2 hrs flight Can recommend Albufeira.
