3 questions here. First if I bought online from Post Office is that a better exchange rate than in branch or are they both the same?

Why the P/O. They give the impression that they have a good mixture of higher, mid, and lower denominations sent, rather than mostly higher which is ideal for us. So my next queery is to ask if this is true.

lastly is there another provider that covers both questions previously that can be recommended.

Online transactions are usually slightly cheaper - I personally find Travelex at my local Tesco suits my needs and you can specifiy what you want in denominations as its face to face.
Delivery charges (if any) are another factor to take into account

Thanks CaC, but my nearest in store bureau de change Tesco's is 20 miles away so a bit awkward for that.
Dzug, the P/O say free delivery on a certain amount of money ordered.
I've used IMS FX in the past and has good rates with free delivery, although that depends on the amount being bought. Sainsburys was also a good rate a couple of times.
check out M and S, if you can, their exchange rates seem generally good.
