i found Budapest very very cheap :)
it largely depends what you want to do. Two meals a day no doubt, but do you plan to stroll round town on foot, take excursions for the day, splurge on shopping, go clubbing at night...?

You could look through these

Broadly speaking, breadstick is right, Budapest's not expensive, but you can spend plenty if you put your mind to it.
I don't know your age but public transport in Budapest is free for EU citizens of pension age.
Crazy question. What standard of food are you wanting / what activities do you intend to do?
We spent three days in Budapest this June on our way back from Wien. I'm not sure about HUF and GBP, but plan to spend $3 per regular meal and around $7 per fancy dinner. Also, they have these beautiful Széchenyi thermal baths with 18 inside and outside pools and temperature +18C through +40. The entrance fee was about $18 per person per day. Highly recommended! Walking is another way to save cash in Budapest as the downtown itself isn't that stretched.
