We used to do that route to France a couple of times a year, towing our caravan, can't imagine what it'd be like stuck there, in the heat, with a youngster or two in the car. The stuff of nightmares.

The solution is simple. If you want to go to France don't go via Dover/Calais. There are plenty of other crossing routes.

Depends where in France you're heading to though, we've done all the crossings at one time or another. I'd avoid Dover like the plague at the moment.
