Safe(Ish)Holiday Destination Ideas Please

We can go away for two weeks in October somewhere abroad. Whether I'm over reacting or not I can safely rule out Tunisia, Turkey, and Germany ,even France is worrying me. I know that nowhere is safe and anything could happen anywhere but have you any suggestions that are probably safer than others? Dont mind long flights ..... TIA xx

If by sunshine you mean warm then that counts most of the normal Europe destinations out anyway unless you are willing to risk poor weather. October can be very changeable. The Caribbean if you can afford it, Antigua is my favourite - although October is in hurricane season. If you want somewhere cheaper how about the Canaries or Cape Verde islands.

Cyprus is great. OK, the sea isn`t that gorgeous blue that you see in other places but the food is good, it`s easy (and cheap) to drive around and the people are lovely.

Neither Spain nor Portugal show up on maps of 'terrorist activity'. The Costa del Sol, - Malaga is very interesting or the Algarve - Faro is a lovely city, - are well worth a visit.
And the Canary Islands will be lovely and warm and safe.

Agree with jennykenny - any of the Canary islands will have lovely weather in October. No time difference either so no jet-lag :)

What about Sorrento ? Not a very long flight. Wonderful scenery and even more womderful food !

Does your holiday have to have a beach ? ....What about Switzerand or Austria ?

People have always spoken kindly of Portugal !

Have you thought about Greece or any of the Adriatic countries ? A friend has just come back from Croatia, having always been to Majorca and can't think why she hadn't been before !

I was going to suggest Bermuda, but apparently October is their wettest month. Temps in the mid 70's though. There's also Trinidad and Tobago.

I`ve been in Bermuda in October. The weather was ok but Bermuda is really expensive

I know you may seem resistant but Jordan has much to offer. Petra, Wadi Rum, Dead Sea and fantastic snokelling right from the beach. Super weather at that time of year and a short flight to Aqaba. They are super efficient at security, I never felt safer.

If you end up in Crete, make sure to visit Balos and Elafonisi with its pink sand. This is where Princess D and Charles spent their honeymoon. We went there back in 2013 and I still think Crete is one of the most beautiful places on Earth although I am quite a savvy traveler.

In October, Barcelona can also be a safe option. Comfortable weather, numerous hotels with swimming pools/beaches, and fantastic architecture.
