Hi! We got the OK last week for Mr. J2 to go for a week without having his dressings changed - yippee! (skin cancer cut out on shin 2 yrs. ago) so, hot-foot, we've booked our first holiday in 3 years -a week in a dog-friendly, self-catering cottage in Denholme (Borders).

I really want to go back top Lindisfarne, so that is top of the list as Mr. J2 has never been. Otherwise I could do with some ideas. I holidayed at Hawick with the kids, but that was in the late '80's. Don't want to waste our time at all - and remember there is a small, slightly nervy dog.

All ideas welcome and thanks in advance.

I think you are right next to Jedburgh; the Abbey and Castle are well worth a visit.
(PS If you use SatNav don't put an 'E' on Denholm or else it may take you to a place a bit nearer home?)

If you wish to visit Lindisfarne don't forget to check the tide tables and time your journey accordingly.

Jourdain2......I have been listening to Melvyn Bragg's new Radio 4 program about The North. The episode concerning County Durham and Lindisfarne was fascinating, so I would go back and have really good explore again !

Terrific programme, isn't it, mikey? Being a Northerner I have holidayed up there before, but have such limited time so thought I'd ask for advice.

Don't forget Bamburgh and Seahouses. If you re going as far down as Alnwick worth a visit to Alnmouth.

Love Seahouses and road to Bamburgh is a spectacular sight!

You have to go to Craster for the kippers. From Seahouses you can get boat trips to the Farne Islands.

And don't forget to drop into Craster for a pint in the Jolly Fisherman and some kippers from Robsons.

Yes, all - been to Craster - little blue boats, did a sketch of it and walked up the coast to a castle (good for dog) it will all be new to Mr J2. Starting to make packing lists. Have to have a lesson tomorrow from nurse as to how to apply pressure bandages - did it once or twice in France, but they are stricter here!

I promise to double-check tide tables Jackdaw - at the moment, from memory, Tuesday looks good.

Depends on the weather and timing. Not sure. Oh has been there before, but the rest is new for him. Perhaps we could meet somewhere in-between? Just a thought. :)

Can't wait to eat them again - but will have to make the 'Wee Nook' next year perhaps. OH has a yen (once free of nurses) to return to S. Germany, where he did his National Service, so we are investigating dog-friendly cottages there next Spring. In fact we were trying to chat to each other in German last night - discovered that a lot of revision has to be done!
