I am returning to U.K. from Japan tomorrow. I have been given 4 bottles of Sake (as gifts from various friends) 3 x 720ml and 1x 300ml . How much of this will I be allowed to bring into the country?

Because Sake is less than 22% abv, it's probably classified as 'still table wine' so you'll be allowed to bring in 2 litres but, as long as you're not bringing in any spirits or fortified wine, it's likely that Customs officials will simply regard the odd half-litre of Sake, that you've got over the limit, as taking up part of your spirits allowance and not charge you duty.

Just remember to go through the red channel and ask whether they wish you pay any duty. With such small amounts, the answer is likely to be 'No'. Even if it's 'Yes', the amount won't be prohibitive.
