Both the AA and ViaMichelin websites suggest the M6 > A75 route and it's almost certainly the way which I'd do it myself (especially as it gives the shortest sea crossing - I'm not a good sailor!).

The only alternative I might consider is the North Wales Expressway to Holyhead, a ferry to Dublin and then drive to Belfast.
or Liverpool to Belfast - the crossing is 8 hours but it's done overnight, with a convenient 06h30 arrival time in Belfast.
Didn't dare drive in Belfast - the hospitality is far, far too welcoming. Used to fly from Manchester to Belfast City airport (one hour) and then taxi. Not quite sure how we made the evening flight home sometimes - Guinness, oysters and all sorts of wonderful food.
wouldnt it be cheaper to fly? Return from about £40 per person depending on dates
^^^ Agreed, Bednobs!

easyJet fly from Manchester to Belfast International. FlyBe operate from Manchester to Belfast City.
Cheaper to fly and cab it just don't get an airport cab use fonacab or valuecabs. Actually you could walk to titanic from city airport in 20-30 mins.
Assuming it's important to take the car I would go that route (also assuming you don't want to use M42)- whenever I have gone through the Lake District or gone to Glasgow up the M6 way it has been fine although caravans can sometimes be a problem as they struggle to get up the hills or swerve about on the bends

I might use the A2 F.F. It would be quicker.
