What is the terrain along the drive from Las Vegas to Flagstaff?

A really diverse mixture... As you proceed south-east bound out of Las Vegas on Highway 147 to intercept 95/93 to Boulder Dam the area is high desert.  Not much to see, but the drive to the Dam is fairly short.  Once you've seen the Dam you're faced with a really boring drive thorugh scrub brush desert on Highway 93 to Kingman, Arizona or back tracking from the Dam a few miles to take Highway 95 to Bull Head City/Laughlin.  Still not much in the way of scenery but you cross the Colorado River and there are several hotels and casinos on the Nevada side.  At any rate, you still come out at Kingman and join Interstate 40 to Flagstaff.  The farther east one travels, the more mountainous the scenery becomes.  Lots of tall lodgepole pine forests near the highway and it is quite pleasant.  There are some small towns along the way, such as Seligman, that are, at least for the U.S., quite old and worth the time to spend a few hours in.  One thing of interest is that old "Route 66' takes off at Seligman and many shops and restaurants reminiscent of the era of that famous highway have sprung up.  It's about 140 miles from Kingman to Flagstaff...

The Hoover/Boulder dam is really worth a visit. Meteor crater is actually 35 miles in the further on from Flagstaff if it's the sort of thing that's worth a 70 mile detour to you.

Make sure you've plenty of petrol when I did that drive a few years back I didn't fill up before leaving Las Vegas and drove into Kingman with the vapour in my tank - not bright!

Don't foget a possible climate change, we left Las Vegas in blazing sunshine dressed in tee shirts and shorts and arrived later that day ar Flagstaff in a snowstorm.
