I took a 4 day break in Lisbon a couple of years ago and loved it. Plenty of sightseeing spots in the city and a bridge that looks exactly like the Golden Gate bridge.

Also worth doing is taking a trip West of the city towards the Atlantic coast and a lovely place (I think it might be a national park) called Sintra, with stunning scenary and towns with fantastic cheese & wine shops.

I've also been to the more lively Algarve which is busy and more suitable for a summer break, sun & sand etc.

i would recommend villamoura in the algarve, its a quiet "grown up" resort with a huge marina and a casino and loads of lovely restaurants.  Its not full of drunken youths falling out of tacky bars but there is enough life about it to keep you busy for a fortnight
