Romantic Break In Kent

Any recommendations for a 2-night romantic break in Kent? It doesn't need to be a seaside resort, but are any of the Kent seaside resorts worth staying n?

Whitstable is lovely. It's 'upmarket' without being 'pretentious', with loads of lovely places to eat and lots of independent shops to explore. It's also so close to Canterbury (which is well worth a visit) that it actually comes under Canterbury City Council:

I don't like Whitstable...it gets packed with visitors .. I like Deal..it is a small town on the coast with a lovely high street and is much more relaxed for eating, drinking and tootling round the town..well worth a look. Hythe is similarly pleasant. Herne Bay is just along from Whitstable but much less hustle and bustle. Depends what suiits you really.

I like Hythe and Dymchurch, and the Romney Marsh. All very relaxing and unpretentious. I find Whitstable a bit crowded and over hyped these days, (since I lived there) while Herne Bay is unchanged and a little bit run down( since I lived there too).

Alternatively if you prefer history and culture, and plenty of restaurants, settle on Canterbury. You wont go wrong there.

All depends really what you want from your romantic weekend. Sitting on top of the cliffs at Dover, with a picnic and watching the ferries go to and fro is a favourite of mine, but maybe not everyones idea of romantic!

Just remembered Sandwich, of course. Lovely little town with lots of history, a circular walk, a river, independent shops and eateries. You can also follow the footpath from staithe and walk across the fields and between the golf courses to the sea, way away from civilisation.

I know Rye isn't in Kent, but it is awfully pretty !

It really does depend on what you want to do. I used to live in Kent and that time all the seaside towns were a bit run down but it truly is the garden of England, has the most beautiful lush countryside so for me I'd prefer somewhere nestled in the downs, a country hotel in the belt south of Canterbury.
