What does Baboshka mean? Is it old woman or Grandmother

Babushka   is the russian term for grandmother - from baba = old woman.  The word also means a headscarf worn by Russian peasant women.

The word means exactly as Sixtus says.  It is also used for wooden dolls which are popular in Russia.  They are in the shape of a woman (or sometimes a set of man and woman), hollow, and a series of different sizes all fit inside each other.

Thanks for that Grunty - I didn`t know thats what the dolls were called.  I`ve only known them as Russian Dolls.

Grunty that is actually not true, allthough most countries outside of russia call the russian wooden dolls baboshkas, in russia they are called "Matryoshka" and is a symbol of a young beautiful russian woman and not a old grandmother.
