I'm taking a 2 week holiday in India in November and need to take out travel insurance. Having looked on the net there seem to be dozens and dozens of providers. Does anyone have any recommendations?

HolidaySafe is worth a look. I only paid £16 for my annual multi-trip European cover this year, so they're likely to be just as competitive for a single-trip Asian holiday:

(The company has won awards from several websites and they're recommended on the Money Saving Expert site).
oh yeah, there are so many!
especially if you go to comparison sites like https://www.money.co.uk/travel-insurance.htm or similar
I usually ask my friends and colleagues about their experience
Once I used https://www.essentialtravel.co.uk/ and the second time http://www.globelink.co.uk/

Hi Buenchico - I was considering Holidaysafe as Which lists it 2nd in their recommended providers. However, the MSE Forum on Holidaysafe seems to have mostly negative reviews as far as I can see. However, people do only complain when things go wrong from their perspective. Thanks for the feedback.
