i would like to go here for 2 weeks with a friend next oct - ish, wondering, whats the best place to get a cheap flight?

Not sure about flights mate, but if you want a well placed cool hostel then try 'Jazz on the Town' its not too expensive (about 22 quid per night), they have small dorms 4-6 beds and have really nice communal areas and bbq's on the top of the building on friday evenings. Alternatively, the YMCA on 53rd street has rooms with two beds, and you can use all the facillities (gym,swimming pool etc) for free, and its a 30 second walk from central park. Sorry i know you didnt ask about accomodation but hope thats some use for you.

Depending where you would be flying from, you could have a look at Icelandair fares. You will most likely need to wait until nearer or past the end of this year to obtain quotes from any/all airlines.

A good website to try is www.cheapflights.co.uk (and the same for accommodation - www.cheapaccommodation.co.uk). It basically directs you to other websites, with sometimes rather vague prices, but its a good resource for getting the names of other competitive companies.
