Winter Sun

OH and I are looking at going away for the week in January.

We are looking at Tenerife.

Any suggestions? I’ve never been to Tenerife or abroad in Winter and have no idea what to expect?

My wife and I once went to Tenerife at Christmas. During the day, the weather was fine and sunny, but not particularly warm; more like spring in England. Once the sun had gone down, the temperature was decidedly chilly, but not unpleasantly so. My wife went for a midnight swim in the hotel's open-air pool, and declared it to be 'invigorating'! Overall, we had a good time, and the weather was coolish and mild.

I'd book last minute. You get really good deals if you don't mind where you go.

South Africa is lovely at that time. Avoid school hols though, both British and South African.

Tenerife tis usually 'reasonably warm' but not 'hot' in January:

However it does have a reputation for often being very windy during the winter months.

As stated in that link, it can be march warmer in the south of the island at that time of the year than in the north.

The Canary Islands are by far the most popular destination for British holidaymakers in the winter, simply because it's the only place to go that's far enough south to get some warmth without being expensive (as, say, South Africa - or even Australia - might be) or troubled by terrorism (as many north African countries can sometimes be). So, while Tenerife won't be as busy as in the summer months, it certainly won't be devoid of life either.

I’d love to go to New Zealand and Oz but it’s a bit pricey for a week. I’ve already been to Amsterdam (not dismissing it though)

His Parents and Sister are going to Gran Canaria we thought about going but I said I didn’t want to spend every night going out. It’s not me - it’s not us to be honest.

Never thought of that Ummm, I don’t want to go too far or spend too much as I need to get time off work.

Where you off to though? Anywhere nice?

Ive been to Tenerife in Nov,Dec, Jan and Feb and weve always had good weather, between 22c and 27c, the bonus is it only about 4hrs from the UK.

If you do decide to got to Tenerife, head for the south, as the north is always cloudier and colder. Los Cristianos, Playa de Las Americas and Costa Adeje are all next to each other and quite popular.
We go to Tenerife at Xmas and considering December is statistically the coldest and wettest, the temperature has nearly always been nice and warm and hardly any rain.
I remember one time when we went out for a drink or 2 on Xmas eve and the temperature at 12.30am Xmas day was 19 degrees C ...... nice.
Head south and you won't go far wrong :)

Friends are currently there. They go for a month each year. They rent a bungalow. At the moment it is 36 degrees. They have already booked for next year.

Sorry I got confused. Daughter has just returned from Mexico where it was 36 degrees.
Friends in Tenerife say it is very hot. Can't remember how though.

I have just returned from tenerife at it was about 26 degrees at its warmest. I stayed by the pool in my bikini all week but it was coldish in the pool

First your destination is perfect as its the largest of the seven Canary Islands, Tenerife attracts roughly five million tourists a year as its full of attractions such as: mountains , monkeys, night dives to nightlife, history, culture, festivals and fiestas… There really is something for everyone.
I recommend you to visit the best interesting place in Tenerife such as Mount Teide Volcano, Teide National Park, Masca Hilltop village ans snorcolling and diving in Scuba
