I am in my seventies and hope to travel to Brisbane in Sept/Oct to visit my sister for approx. 3 weeks. Never having been before I wonder if anyone has some advice/tips regarding Airlines, visa (how soon you need to book/apply), currency (prepaid card or Australian dollars currency)or anything else that might help. I intend to go non-stop. Many thanks

Yes ZM probably Heathrow
Firstly, you can’t go non-stop.
I’d recommend Emirates with a stop over in Singapore.
I agree with ZM re breaking up your journey - Cathay Pacific comes out as one of the cheapest overall. If you can stretch to £100 a day that should cover most needs. I always use Aus dollars with a card as a backup in case of emergencies. Free visa here - https://www.homeaffairs.gov.au/Trav/Visa-1/651-
Book it as soon as you like - if you fill in all the boxes its approved pretty much immediately. Have a great time. If you can afford a side trip to Sydney its a lovely place.
You can go non stop now - since late March, early April.

My uncle goes out via Dubai

You can go non stop from UK to PERTH in Australia, but would then need to get from Perth to Brisbane.

It has been non stop from Dubai to Australia for many years but not from UK to Australia.
even if I could fly non-stop I wouldn't; stop over in the Gulf or SE Asia somewhere and catch your breath.

Try applying for one of these if you can

No charge for using it to pay in foreign currency when you're abroad, unlike most credit cards.
have you been to Australia before

I'm 70 and went there about 3 or 4 years ago, mainly stayed in Sydney and found it quite expensive, also in the hotels that I stayed in you had to pay for internet time, no free wi-fi, the only place that I could get online to contact my family back home was in McDonalds!
