Mosquito
I have not long come back from Portugal and although I really enjoyed it I got about 20 mosquito bites, my wife and 2 friends were also covered in them, I have been going abroad for years ( Spain ) and this is the first time I have come home with bites all over me, I think they are called wheels. Was this because of the time of year ( Sept ) or are they active all the time ?

The apartment we stayed in was full of mozzies, goodness knows what the neighbours thought as we were jumping up and down on the beds with rolled up newspapers every night. There were also lots around a restaurant we used to use. Poor old Mr Brik had about 30 bites, our daughter had 1 and me and my son had none. I don't know if they are there all year round but it's certainly put us off going back.
They are attracted to people via scent, so certain individuals can get 'bitten' while others not at all, even in the same room. You'll find a higher incedence of mosquitos when you stay in accommodation near stagnant water (or following heavy rain), as this is where the lavae hatch.
The secret is to use the 'plug-in' electric repellants in your room, they can be bought at most UK Airports 'No-bite' is the most common brand.
Try Citronella spray on your skin when outdoors, as they don't like the smell.
