on my recent holiday all the airports and customs whatever said u cant take matches or lighters on to the plane. ok, fair enough. but why check ur bag, if they're gonna sell em in the shops in the departure lounge?

Always take my lighter with me. Never had a problem.

Never had a problem taking a lighter anywhere. Last year at Geneva airport I actually bought a Swiss Army knife in the departure lounge shop AFTER security. Crazy.

you can take matches on board as long as they are on your person and not in the overhead locker. so if they ignite for any reason you are aware of it and can sort it out.
