Anyone here flown short-haul with Lufthansa recently?

We're flying to Munich next week. Am I right in thinking drinks and snacks are free?

And are they a good airline?

You’re allowed to take an empty bottle through, and your booze in sealed bags. Who’s going to stop you unsealing the bags in the loo?

Cloverjo if you want to you buy a bottle of water, go to the loo and decant anything you want into it, just an idea not something I've ever done lol.

Me neither. I always take an empty plastic bottle through security. Not to put booze in though. I refill it with water on the other side.

I flew with Lufthansa when I had four days leave form Northern Ireland during the troubles. The flight we were supposed to be on was cancelled by strike action. A Lufthansa Captain overheard the conversation between me and my mate and the check in girl. He heard us say we only have four days then we are back to Northern Ireland. He told the lass to put us on his flight, in First Class! We landed at Dusseldorf, a Lufthansa car was waiting for us to take to our married quarters in Lippstadt, The drive told us he would pick us up for the return journey four days later. The same captain flew us back. He shook hands with us, to the surprise of the other passengers all German When he told them who we were we got a round of applause!
The people of Lippstadt sent lots of parcels to 'Our boys' on the front line. When the regiment got back to Lippstadt, we got a big welcome from the people, as often as not we weren't allowed to pay for anything for a fortnight!

Thanks Tony. It's our Second aniversary while we're away. We're going to Dachau that day which will be quite sombre I imagine but we'll probably have a nice dinner somewhere in the evening.

I think the Germans are quite a nice bunch really, WBM. They're a clever race and very organised.

They are indeed lovely people. The road we lived on was one side British army married quarters, the other side all German civilians, they came to our parties, we went to theirs. Had some wonderful Saturday nights! :o}

Oh Boaty that was good call by planes Captain. I've only got upgraded to first class once when I was coming back from the States. Different world, champagne before take of.

We both fell asleep as soon as we started moving. If we got three hours in one go in NI, we were being lazy! :o} One hour in one go was about the norm, with catnaps when we could.

That was fully dressed, if we got the callout all we had to do was grab our flack jackets, helmets and rifles and be on the move in a couple of minutes.

When we ended out tour of duty and returned to Germany, most of us slept the clock round. The wives had been warned we would!

As I think I've said before Jens late father was a fire officer in RAF and where ever he went in the world he went Jen and her 2 brothers tagged along if it was a long posting.

You did Tony, that's the way of it in the forces, not to separate families fore long periods. All the families came with us when we were posted to Malaysia for three years.

If you're flying within the EU, it isn't duty free. Lots of products are cheaper at your local corner shop - and that's saying something. I suppose you mean the tipple is available "airside"?
