I doubt that the payments are made in alphabetical order of surnames. (A contributor to this thread says that they're not: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.php?t=282004 ). If there's any logic to the order of payments (which, with a Government agency, would seem to be unlikely anyway) it's more likely that either the oldest people get the payments first (simply because their names were added to the lists of eligible people first) or that National Insurance numbers are used to determine the order.

The only official information would appear to be this: "Most payments are made automatically between November and December. You should get your money by 13 January 2020"

I always get mine around the 21/22 of the month. I think the date varies, but any individual will always get it at the same time each year.
I got mine on 20th Nov last year.
Got mine on 19th November last year.

Hadn't thought to check last years date.

Was paid 20th..thanks for replies.
Got ours on 15th November
Got mine the other day dated 10/11/2019. It says :-
" We are making these payments over a number of weeks from November so people may get their payment at a different time, even if they are living at the same address. We aim to make all payments by Christmas."

My account is in my maiden name, which begins with a G and is earlier in the alphabet than his. This may have something to do with it.-------- or not! :)

Mr J2 is still awaiting his (obviously we get £100 each, rather than him getting £200).
Is there still no way of returning it?

My granddad used to get it and always tried to return it as he didn't need it. No department for that, apparently.
He could have given it to charity if he didn’t need it, I know a couple of people who do that.
He might have done, I never asked.

He probably spent it on us.

I'm glad he kept it though. At the end of their life they were paying £1,200 for him and £1,400 for my Nan. Every week. So what's a couple of hundred quid in the grand scheme of things?
I'm waiting for mine to fix my mobility scooter :-)
Got mine on 27th November last year. I’d forgotten about it this year, so that’s something nice to look forward to.
