We’re having a big family holiday on Ile de Re this year and I’m not sure I’m looking forward to it, not quite sure why as I dearly love all the people who will be going.
There will be nine adults and numerous babies/children, all staying in the same villa. We’re all making our own way there and back but will obviously all be together once we’re there.
How would you feel about something similar?

Thank you, but no thank you.
Have done it and it worked out well as long as it’s said from Day 1 each will be doing their own thing when they want to
Not for me, thanks. I have a term for those type of events: triple f's...The last two stand for "family function", and the first f stands for a word that would be deleted.
I'd stay at the villa with the babies and children, everyone can then go off and do their own thing.

Looks a lovely location.
Nope. I could manage a weekend with that many people but that's about it.
I know the Ile de Re. Establish ground rules from day 1 - and then hire bikes so people can go their own ways and regroup when it suits - unless you want to be driving everywhere (sounds as if you all have a car each). This will be a bit stressful - but nothing like what will happen if you are all on top of each other. Plenty to do there - but need a car really to get over the bridge - although it would be a day out and an adventure to do it by bike.
Room for 2 more Vagus? We're going later in the year. ;0)))
your holiday is booked so there is nothing you can do about it. But it doesn't work cos there are far too many personalities and some of them usually clash.
I spent 13 days on a coach with my grandparents, my parents and my narcissist controlling ex. I was dreading it.

But.....approach it with hope. Make sure you take time out for yourself. And make a point of laughing at stuff that would ordinarily irritate.

When I look back now at that time (whilst it was like boot camp and could be tiring and wearing) it is with fondness. I think that is because mum and I decided we were going to bloody well laugh, whatever.

Ps. And do not under estimate the beauty of wine!!!!!
There are no personality clashes in my family. I just wouldn't want to be around that many people who will get to see what a slob I really am :-)

Thanks for all your thoughts.
We’ve been there twice before and it was our suggestion as a destination when the idea of France came up, as it has everything for a family holiday, a most beautiful island with lovely beaches.
There are no personality clashes in our family, we all do enjoy being together, we’ve just never spent more than a weekend together before.
BM, I think wine will have a starring role :)

I`m not antisocial but it sounds like a recipe for familial disaster. We do ocassionally travel with family but work and finance place a restriction on joining us on the kind of travel we do. Having no GP fans doesnt often help as we often combine a GP with a holiday.
Seems I’m in the minority Vagus as I’ve never had a problem , as long as there are ground rules and a determination to just laugh and have fun, I don’t see a problem at all

I've done 2 holidays like this and both in Turkey. First was in 2000 and then in 2016 for my brothers wedding. the wedding was in a huge 5* plus golfing complex and I have never experienced such opulence before. Hotel was amazing. We all had a great time and hardly left the complex as there was so much there to do. Even had a dinosaur park!
