Has anyone heard of this? I need to visit France next year and my EHIC expires in May. I have heard of the UK Global..... but can't find it online.

here is a film by Michael Moore, it's about the US but most of the rest of the world, especially Yerp is the same:

I have never so far needed healthcare where EHIC mattered but my wife and several others we know have. The result was seamless attention and good service/treatment in national medical facilities in different countries. EHIC covers emergency treatment only (it is in essence travel insurance) and only under public healthcare rules (unless I am mistaken) but we have, by choice as it was non-emergency, also sought private scans, diagnosis and treatment for my wife outside the UK either in order to circumvent waiting lists in the UK or because it was not available on the NHS. In every case excellent service which puts the World's Best healthcare (NHS to you and me) to shame. Go on TTT, just one "Anti-British" badge, please - I haven't had one for at least two days.
If people went to a European equivalent of a NHS hospital I'm sure the card would be acceptable.
The only time I needed medical treatment abroad the nearest doctor's surgery was private. I paid for the treatment and was given itemized receipts which probably could have been used if I'd wanted to claim my money back from an insurance company.
I wasn't insured then. It might be worth considering now.

eg Luxembourg 2016, I had a minor motorcycle collision and my right leg and foot needed some stitches, I was in a bit of pain and the ambulance turned up but insisted on proof of health insurance before they'd take me to the Hospital. Presumably they'd just leave me there if I was unconscious or didn't have it. So I managed to get my wallet out of my injured leg side pocket and produced a pre prepared card with phone number and policy details. Then they called the number to check. The hospital did the same thing etc etc, barbarians. If you like I'll tell you about my sister attempting to give birth to my niece in Spain, that's a good un. Just 2 of many experiences I have with forin "health services".
