Does anyone know if UK hotels routinely accept and store luggage sent by courier in advance of guest arrivals?

(e.g. if you arrive by train at midday, hoping to leave your luggage at the hotel until you can check in at 2pm, you'll often be refused and have to drag your luggage around with you while you seek out some lunch).
So I think that it's extremely unlikely that many hotels will be prepared to store luggage sent by courier. Further, with memories of the Grand Hotel in Brighton in their minds, many hoteliers might consider it a security risk to accept unaccompanied luggage. (The only left luggage facilities at railway stations these days are at those stations equipped with X-ray facilities to scan all bags. Hoteliers clearly won't have such facilities, so they might be reluctant to accept unaccompanied bags).
