Those Brexit supporters who voted leave so that they could have a blue passport will be disappointed – mine is black in colour.

I;ve neve rhad a blue one. My first one was black as I remember. Maybe they were all very dark navy blue that looked black and thats what;s been brought back??

Old UK passports were black. I need to renew mine. I've waited, because it expired in Feb. 2020 so it would have been a waste of money to renew it. Any bets on the best time to renew it?

jourdain2 – I have no plans to travel this year, but with my passport expiring, I did not want to have to make a completely new application (and all that that would entail).
It only took a month from posing the old passport to receipt of the new one.

I still have my old passport. Holding it in my hand by itself it looks black but if I lay it on a black leather chair it is dark blue in comparison.

I think they were pulling your plonker.

That said, I'm looking forward to receiving my new one when I have to renew later this year. Not because it will be blue or black, but because it will not have the words "European Union" embossed on its cover. That organisation is not empowered to issue passports and quite why it sees the need to have its title printed on the cover of those issued by sovereign nations (and why those issuing nations allow it) is something of a mystery.

I still have my old pre-EEC hardback passport (with the corner of the front cover snipped off). It is a very, very dark blue.

Indeed, pre-EU British passports were so dark a blue as to appear black, much as police "boys in blue" uniforms appeared black.

I recall queuing to cross back into the USA from Tijuana around the time that the maroon passports were being introduced and my late OH was mocking mine. In the queue a German couple were having exactly the same conversation, they would have preferred to keep the green one. We're not unique in wanting to retain some national identity whatever was happening with the EU.

i think if the tortured remainers actually herded up those who voted leave because:

passports would change colour
An ad on the side of a bus persuaded them
They wanted to stop immigration
They wanted old light bulbs and bent bananas]

They would be the disappointed ones as the number would be insignificant. Like it or not most leavers voted using their brain cells even if it was misguided.

PS old and new passports are very dark blue, difficult to distinguish from black.
