VW beetle cabriolet

Did volkswagon ever actually make a beetle cabriolet or were they all individual projects?I don't mean the new beetle.

VW did have authorised cabriolet. Produced by a coachbuilders called Karmann. These are quite sort after these days. There are conversion kits for DIY roof-chops but I'd personally steer away from those, as they don't look half as good as the real thing and probably haven't had the necessary strengthening of the body to reduce 'scuttle-shake'
