Do We Need A Shuttle Or Can We Walk Off The Ship To The Shops?

I know we need the shuttle bus at Lisbon, to get into town, but can we walk straight off the ship and walk around shops or the beach, in the Canaries and Funchal??

I'm sure I have mentioned this before but why on earth don't you use the tripadvisor forums for these type of questions? - loads of people will know the answers rather than the random chance of an ABer seeing this question and having cruised to Madeira and as for the Canaries, you do know that could mean Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, La Gomera etc etc. and they are all different. Which one?

There are TWO cruise ports on the island of Tenerife. They are in Santa Cruz
