Important Passport Requirements Now We Are No Longer In The Eu
As the holiday season approaches and you look forward to queuing for many hours at Dover, check that your passport meets the requirements to enter the EU – otherwise you might be enjoying a staycation, admiring the White Cliffs of Dover.
You might look at your passport and see that it is valid for at least 3months after the day you plan to leave; job done – Wrong.
Prior to October 2018 the British Passport Office was in the habit of issuing passports valid for a period longer than 10 years. This was often done where a passport was renewed before the old one had expired.
But when travelling to the EU, your passport must have been issued less than 10 years before the date you enter the EU.
So if your passport was issued prior to October 2018, best check its actual issue date and that you are not travelling to the EU more than 10 years after its issue date.
People are being denied boarding the aircraft/boat/train for falling foul of this 10 year rule.

This has been written about many times in news articles since Brexit. There was confusion with different airlines giving conflicting advice. In Portugal we have been notified about this numerous times. We were also notified what all expats who complied with regulations and were legally resident had to do before the December deadline. Those who had problems were usually those who had not applied for residency when they first came

That short and succinct passage explains perfectly what Remainers will never grasp - that the problems which the EU has created (amply described by Mr Scruton) are far greater than any small advantages that accrue from seamless trade and borderless travel. The EU imposes its dogma by threatening to make life awkward. Having to make sure your passport is no older than ten years is a small price to pay to escape the lunacy. Suggesting that the sole achievements of Brexit are blue passports and crowns on beerglasses simply demonstrates their complete lack of understanding.
All Remainers should read Mr Scruton's "Where we are" essay before dismissing Leavers as Xenophobic Little Englanders.

I'm not trying to explain benefits, Zacs. Exactly the opposite; I'm simply explaining that the UK should not expect to be treated any differently to any other "third" country now it is no longer an EU member. I don't know why anybody expects it, why they are surprised when the rules that apply to all other nations are applied to us or where anybody got the idea that it wouldn't happen. Continually bleating about the "horrors" of being treated the same as the other 170-odd normal (i.e. non-EU) countries serves no purpose.
My remark about making life awkward was more a general one rather than specific to the passport issue. The EU's strategy almost throughout its existence (including that of its predecessors) and certainly in the last 30 years or more is to entwine its members so thoroughly that the idea of leaving, or even failing to comply with all the conditions of membership is met with dire warnings of how difficult it will be for the refusniks. The lead up to the referendum and the (far too lengthy) period between then and our eventual departure demonstrated this perfectly.

There is a big difference in being part of the EU and just going there for a holiday gulliver in case you hadn't noticed. There are only a few on here who say about the big queues and it seems they are all remainers. Been there a few times since we left and going again very soon and guess what, no queues or at most not any longer than the usual ones. Going on and on about us leaving will make no difference whatsoever. Get over it and get on with your lives. The rest of us are.
