Do i need a passport to travel to the bahamas from detroit, michigan. I went there several years ago and needed only a birth certificate.

The ability of a US citizen (which I assume you are) to travel to the Bahamas without a passport is being withdrawn. It may already have happened, or it may be imminent, or it may be a year or so away. So the answer is maybe.

I'd check on a US oriented web site for the latest information and a more accurate idea of the date.

US citizens may still enter the Bahamas without a passport upon production of a birth certificate AND either a driver's licence or a voter's registration card.

Found a site that says you will need a passport by 2008 to do this - so it's OK for the moment.
