How do you get Married in New York City?

I've looked into getting a marriage licence from the city clerk, but there's a few questions which still remain un-answered:
- I need to pay by money order. What's this, and where do I get it?
- Can you just turn up at the City Clerks office and get married on the day (after you get the certificate, of course)
- Do you need someone seperate to perform the ceremony or do they do this 'all inclusive' at the City Clerks office?
ANY OTHER TIPS? THANKS!

Do you mean you have to pay in advance from the UK, or that it's the method of payment required when you get there?

If it's the former, it can't be done. Money Orders do not exist any more in the UK. You'd need to get a foreign currency cheque from your bank or Thomas Cook, or do an electronic transfer, which means you'd need to know the City Clerk's department's bank details..

If you can leave it to arrival, I guess a US Post Office will sell you a money order.

Have you checked out this web site? If there's no e-mail address there is at least a phone number. You want to get ALL your questions answered, you don't want to leave ANYTHING to chance! Good luck!
