I have decided to take my holiday for the summer in Kephalonia. I know very little about the place apart from what a friend has said and Captain Corelli's Mandolin. Can anyone suggest some sites to visit, walks, beaches and/restaurants of note and anything else I should consider.

TIA

Have been on a day trip here whilst on a cruise and went to Fiskardo, situated in lovely little bay, had lunch at Tassia's. Tassia is one of Greece's TV chefs and the food was fantastic. Cannot recommend it highly enough. The resort is a little pricey in itself but well worth the trip. I think from memory a large part of the island was destroyed in an earthquake but Fiskardo survived intact. I seem to remember going past partially destroyed houses left untouched after the incident.
We went to Fiskardo for 2 weeks 2 years ago and it was the loveliest place in the Greek Islands I had been to.We've visited about 7 islands so far.The only problem was the long transfer...about 2 hours I think. But,it was worth it.We ate at the same place as Breezy23 and it was brilliant. All in all..highly recommended. We stayed in a little cottage just 5 mins walk from the centre and travelled with Sunvil. They have a really good website.Try to go on a trip to Skorpios..the Onassis Island...it's eerie...left just as it was in the 1960's or whenever they stopped visiting..but very beautiful.
