Me and my boyfriend are planning to spend a couple weeks in Malaysia via Singapore. We've never been and were wondering what the best beach resorts in Malaysia are? We were thinking of somewhere that isn't too touristy (so perhaps 'resort' isn't the best word). Also, are there any sights in either Malaysia or Singapore that shouldn't be missed? appreciate any suggestions!

We only spent a cpl of days in KL on a stopover but you cant miss the twin towers, free to go up to the skybridge, you just have to go in the morning and get a ticket ( they give you a time to be back later in the day).

I spent three weeks in Malaysia as my dad lives out there. Sorry cant tell you much about the beaches, but in that heat (july lol) it was the last thing on my mind.

I would definatly recommend a night in the Genting Highlands. They have everything up there, from a theme park to a casino. Cheap hotels and great food. You have to drive through the mist thats how high up it is. I found KL very expensive and for a night out for 3 people we needed around 100 and as a vegetarian I found it very hard to find decent food that wasnt just rice.

I also visited Singapore, and it wasnt very memorable. I found it very small, so we only spent a day there as there wasnt much to do.

I travelled to Thailand aswell and found it a lot more tourist friendly, with cheap clubs, great food, and great shops.

I spent a few weeks in Langkawi this time last year. The beaches there do not compare to those in nearby Thailand. Phuket is a stones throw from Langkawi and much nicer. I have heard that the beaches on the East coast of Malaysia are much better though and not touristy at all. Check out www.airasia.com for really cheap flights once you get to Asis.
