It's not uncommon to see more than 50 people standing in each of the central carriages while there are still plenty of seats in the end carriages.

Well it isn't possible to avoid it. Living in one part of london and working in another doesn't leave too many options. Id rather use the tube for 30 minutes than spend an hour and a half on 3 three buses - Central line would be quickest but I can avoid it by going a longer way round. In general i'll try to avoid the deep "tunnel" tubes like the northern line - is the central line like this or is it a bit wider?
Central line is like the northern line - a single tunnel. Where do you have to go to. Could you use the Circle line? I always go the long way if it avoids the tubes. I don't mind the Circle, District or any of the lines that have the wider tunnels. If I can't avoid the tubes, I just don't go. I am afraid I am that bad.
What about a bus to Paddington or Marylebone stations and then the overground out of west London? Check your alternative journeys on www.tfl.gov.uk.
