I am planning to win the lottery this week and wondered if anyone had an opinion on the best place on earth to live. This should be decided on value for money.crime rates, schooling, hospitals, weather etc not just on having a good beach. Hope to hear some good choices

Antigua especially if u like cricket
Have you considered buying an island and putting on it what and who you want so you have the freedom to live exactly how you want?

skegness!! this is the option if your lottery win is only a tenner. hull is another option.

If you are that sure you are going to win, don't bother buying lottery tickets. Just use the 14M quid that you will need to be certain of winning to relocate.

Australia - Adelaide or Melbourne environs - will meet your criteria, or maybe New Zealand

I suggest that rather than taking the word of others (although , based on my experince, the Economist list is probably quite a good reference), you work out a srategy on how to sample different places without committing yourself from the outset. Preferences in this respect are very individual, All the places mentioned have downsides and all those you are likely to consider also. The chances are that eventually you will decide that wherever you come from suits you as well as any other place - familiarity being the key.

Thanks for all the imput. As Karl says it seems to be down to the individual and that shows from all the different answers. I will let you know how the numbers go tonight.

World Quality of living survey

Halfway down the page you can view all the different charts etc.

Where I live in Munich it's 8th place and I have to say that it's peaceful, safe, relatively cheap (though expensive for Germany), little vandalism etc.

My house, cos my wife and kids live here.
Hmmmm..Either Cuba, or those new dubai islands shaped like the world, maldives, or my choice- Cyprus (village with own beach, perfectly low crime rate, excellent schooling, many british live out there, cheap and value for money, population lives to very old age because of good med diet, excellent food choice and avalability, warm all year round, stunning mountain and beach coast scenery, welcoming people, good food, low rates, not too far away from the UK, respectful people, good for holidays for visiting family, excellent nightlife if you want it, island has more pharmacies than bars, good qual hospitals and med centres, very health orientated- i know, i have been treated there, excellent fishing, nice way of life, relaxed)
That place over the hill where the grass is always greener !!

Pity you aren't just looking for a beach because sunny Fuerteventura has 125 miles of them.

Cost of living is good, but you have won the lottery. In fact that takes care of all the other things, so I would just go for the beach.

Yeh went to fuerteventura last year but prefer the beaches of the greek isles. Like this has proved everyone has their own idea of their own little heaven. I've got a mate whose idea of heaven is tucked away in the mountains near Geneva.Mine is sitting by my own pool with the sun beating down on me while I drink a nice cold beer while winning a second fortune playing online poker.

Unfortuantly I didn't win Wednesday night so I will have to try again Saturday. The 6 numbers usually pay more on a Saturday so maybe I can have my own 2 or 3 little heavens.

Westminster (Just like the Prime Minister and the Queen)

Kensington and Chelsea (safe Conservative seat)

South Yorkshire (My father was born there)

Cornwall (the nearer to Land's End the better)

These quality of life surveys are rubbish in my opinion. Vancouver scores really highly, but when I was there recently, it rains continually, really - like for weeks at a time, all day and really heavily. Also they only get two weeks holiday per year! How can that be okay? Also, Ireland comes out well in one survey, but why then are their rates of alcohol dependancy and suicide soaring? I think Britain is great and I think people who leave it miss it in strange ways that they couldn't guess before they go. Also, you rarely have to wear suncream - hot weather is fine unless you have to work.

welcome to 2006??

Kensington and Chelsea (safe Conservative seat)

Bad football team

South Yorkshire (My father was born there)

Full of people from yorkshire

Cornwall (the nearer to Land's End the better)

No way, full of the cornish!

I do however like the Island idea, bit like the prince from dubai and his hotel island. Just hope it doesnt turn out like 'LOST', eek

Pardon?
