Hi

Not sure if this is the right section but hey.

My partner and I want to get married in Las Vegas.

What sort of arrangements do we need to make i,e, do we need a licence etc?

Also I've heard that if we get married in LV we're not technically married in the UK - is this true?

Can't answer your questions as the only experience I've had of this was my parent renewing their vows, BUT I will say this...

if you're doing the "Little White Chapel" type wedding, it is cheesy (for want of a better word) and it does have to be done with a certain amount of tongue in cheek - it was great and emotional at the same time (I feel I have to add) - the Americans conducting it do take it very seriously :o)

Also, a good piece of advice is to take all your documents and pay for it the day before as it takes some of the edge off the day if you have to do it all before you start the ceremony.

And have plenty of notes in your pockets as EVERYONE expects a tip - the limo driver, the photographer, the Elvis impersonator, and yes, even the vicar person (person who does the legal marrying bit).

You'll have a great time.

Oh and if you're getting married in a hotel (civil type ceremony) - IGNORE ALL OF THE ABOVE (apart from, I imagine, the tipping bit)

VEGAS IS FABULOUS!!!

Check out this link for the General Register Office.

You can't register an overseas marriage at a UK register office but you can have you rmarriage documents deposited with the GRO so that if you need copies in the future you can request them from the GRO.

Get a guide book - I've got a Mini Rough Guide to Las Vegas - and it explains where to get the licence, and the different places you can get married such as a civil marriage, or a wedding chapel or even in a helicopter over the strip!

And congratulations.

My mates got married in Vegas a couple of years ago. They had everything arranged with the agency they booked through. This meant all the hasssle of picking up the license etc was organised for them and driven to the places to sign for them/pay then back in the car and off to the chapel. Not sure how much it cost but took all the stress out of what will hopefullt be a lovely day. Good luck.
