There's an airline that gives longer leg room for an extra payment. Does anyone know what it's called?

Thanks, everyone. A friend has phoned me and the airline is Zoom! They give you extra seat pitch for about �30 - 40 and/or extra leg room for the same prices. As far as I can tell, Zoom is just translantic but maybe there are other airlines that do this.

Air France do also have extra leg room for a premium in the first two or three rows of economy class

Yes - Zoom fly only to Canada.

Most long distance airlines have something similar but they charge a LOT more for it and call it Business Class.

BMI business class have huge areas around individual seats and it is really comfy

I recently travelled with Virgin and I paid $110 extra for an exit row seat. Worth every penny - but still a cheek.

On a lot of the self-check-in terminals now you can choose your seat yourself. You may be able to get an exit row or isle seat then.

Not long ago they used to apologise for putting you in the emergency exit seats and ask if you minded the responsibility in case of an emergency and the minor inconvenience of not having a proper drop-down table. Now the b*****s charge you extra for 'em! By and large I've found most scheduled flights are pretty good on leg-room these days; there' so much competition they can't just pack 'em in like they used to. I haven't been on a charter flight for some years (most of the places I need to go are served by scheduled carriers that are actually cheaper than the charters) so I don't know if they're still as bad as they used to be.

Thanks for all these replies. My main (and probably only!) problem is that I'm fat. Consequently, my knees are further forward than a 'normal' person's. The only flights I take are to Canada - an eight hour journey.

I would definitely never take charter again; the last (and only) one I took was the most uncomfortable 2 x eight hours I have ever spent!

What I want is a cheap, comfortable flight. I'll just keep trawling through the net.

My Travel are charter like most of the cheap airlines that fly to Canada (including Zoom) I try to go charter and upgrade thay way you at least you get larger seats and more legroom plus a half decent meal.

It's funny how the prices go up during the school holidays, isn't it. Fortunately, I retire in July so I could just hang around until the prices are low.
