Cyprus - cigarettes
1 Answers
It is now possible to cross into Northern Cyprus from the South. However, strict warnings are given to the effect that no cigarettes purchased in the North are to be taken back into the South. Apparently almost all vehicles are searched on the Greek side when returning so, in view of the warnings, it would be absolute folly to disregard them. Does anyone know how much cigarettes (eg B&H, Marlboro, L&B, superkings etc) cost in the North? The usual price in Southern Cyprus is CY 1.90 (approx 2.40) for 20.

You'll have to park it on the Greek side and go over on foot. Vehicle crossings are strictly permanent residents only - no red-plate vehicles need apply! I live part of the year in Cyprus but I don't own a Cypriot-registered car, so I have to hire; I have to drive to Nicosia, park there and walk over at the Ledra Palace Hotel checkpoint to visit the north. No sweat really, as public transport in the north is easy and cheap. Oh - and I've no idea about the price of cigarettes - I don't smoke. Sorry!
